The way you go out is almost as important as the way you come in to your reception these days. The days of traditional rice throwing are long gone, mostly because venues won’t allow it any longer and it’s painful. So, now some personality can be thrown into the mix.

My dream exit would have been a vintage Rolls Royce riding down a long driveway lined with fountain fireworks timed to go off as the car rolls past. It’s like something out of a movie, literally, although I can’t remember whether its My Best Friend’s Wedding or another great wedding movie.

When planning our exit it basically came down to cost. It’s one of those last loose ends you wrap up and generally the budget has reached or exceeded the set limitations. We knew that sparklers were a must because I liked how it looks in pictures but we decided to cut cost with the “getaway car”. Instead of paying the limo to sit idle during the reception, we opted to hire an OCart pedicab as something unique and low cost.

Taking into consideration that the hotel was a few blocks up, we felt this was a fun alternative to the limo or renting a Rolls Royce. The decision turned out to be one of our favorite moments from the night. The pedicab driver rode us around for a few extra minutes and we were able to feel it when it sprinkled for a few minutes, something that we would have missed had we been in a car.

Another fun idea I’ve seen are ticker tape exits where guests and confetti guns are used to shower the bride and groom with confetti. Or, leaving on a bicycle built for two, streamer wands, rose petals, just about anything goes as long as you’re having fun and your personality is shining through.
