Let’s face it, no matter the budget; brides everywhere are on the quest to plan the best wedding ever. However, shows like Platinum Weddings on WEtv have us all turning green at every over priced check on the checklist. No worries ladies, there are ways to achieve platinum status without breaking the bank. It’s all about knowing which corners to cut and what splurge will make the biggest impact.

The biggest budget saver? Florals. I know, you were thinking bunches upon bunches of huge pink peonies. But ask yourself this, what’s the point? Why waste money on something that dies a few hours later? If it’s an absolute must have, use them exclusively in your bouquet. Looking for fullness, try a carnation…yes, I said it! Carnations are the new “it” flower, full and hardy, when bunched together in a bouquet they look a lot like a garden rose and they cost you pennies on the dollar. They also make great pomanders for ceremony aisles or flower girls.

Bling on a budget is attainable but may take some personal time on research and a hands -on approach. Asking your florist to add bling to your centerpieces/bouquet/table tops and all you’ll hear is cha-ching, cha-ching, cha-ching. If you’re looking for table jewels to sprinkle around your centerpieces, the best bet is searching on your own. Looking online or saving up your Michael’s coupons is the way to go. After the tables have been decorated, entrust a bridesmaid or a family member to be in charge of bling patrol. Add small crystal detail to basic menu cards or name cards for extra sparkle. Since gluing crystals can get a little boring, set up a wine and work night and task out those bridesmaids! You’ll have things wrapped up in no time and you’ll get some QT with your ladies of honor.

Splurge worthy detail, lighting. The right lighting adds a whole new dimension to your reception area. If your reception is outdoors under the start make sure to spice up your table tops with candlelight to pull in romance. Ballrooms look tré chic with walls lit in one of your wedding colors. Garden wedding perimeters looks enchanted with hanging white bulb lights dangling around the reception space at dusk. Don’t be fearful to look into lighting. Many vendors will work out a pricing deal if you use them for lighting along with another service. This may be your way in.

Platinum is all in the details. It’s only a matter of time till your big day is just as luxe as those high roller brides only you won’t have the buyer’s remorse or guilt when you walk away with beautiful memories and some money left in your pocket!
