Something Blue. We will be hearing those words repeated many times over during the up coming months. But why would Oscar de la Renta be repeating that phrase over and over? Is he heading towards wedded bliss? Is he designing more wedding gowns or creating a new collection? No no no. He is launching a new perfume, the third one in two years. It is called “Something Blue.”

The bridal business is, a large part of the fashion business. In this case the fashion design starts with the packaging. The presentation of the product itself was a concept brought to fruition with all the due care of a couture runway show. A ring reminiscent of a wedding band adorns the neck of the bottle. The top is a copy of a stone, Larimar, only mined and found in the Dominican Republic, the birthplace of Oscar de la Renta. What is the allure of this stone? It is found in the ever so perfect color found in weddings, a soft azure.

There will be a limited edition of the top made of the stone. It is not just a “wedding” scent but women’s scent a “lifestyle” fragrance. Screech. What does that mean? It is a fragrance, which isn’t meant to be used on the wedding only, but rather a fragrance a woman can apply and use it daily.

But don’t head to the stores yet, as it won’t be launched till Thursday and it will be launched at Saks Fifth Avenue then Bloomingdale’s. Something Blue is scheduled to be released in the upper-tier markets in the U.S. and in 10 markets overseas.
